QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ON PREVENTION EDUCATION
From Michelle Thomson, Prevention Education Director
It has been brought to my attention that many of our members have been wondering....
WHAT IS PREVENTION EDUCATION?
Well, the answer is that Prevention Education is the name we have given to our short term (lasting six to eight weeks) courses. These courses have many of the same objectives as Camp Fire's club programming.
Camp Fire's Prevention Education courses are designed to help children develop a strong positive self-esteem. Camp Fire Boys and Girls believes that knowing who we are and feeling good about yourself is a necessary step to becoming responsible and caring adults.
CAN CAMP FIRE CLUBS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THESE PREVENTION EDUCATION COURSES?
DEFINITELY!! We offer a discount club group rate. Although the rates do vary depending on the class, generally a 6 hour course is $100, while a 8 or 9 hour course is $120 a group.
WHAT COURSES DO YOU OFFER, AND FOR WHAT AGE GROUP?
I'm Safe and Sure is an eight session course designed to help kindergarten and first grade boys and girls protect themselves against crimes and develop attitudes related to responsible citizenship.
"Count on Me" Kids is an eight session course for kindergarten through second grade boys and girls. It is a self-esteem drug prevention course designed to help the young child develop a strong positive self-image and positive character traits through emphasis on the importance of healthy lifestyles and encouraging children to do their best and to resist peer pressure.
I Can Do It is an eight session course for second and third grade boys and girls which is based on learning skills to make them more self-reliant both at home and away from home.

and helps older youth better develop and refine their babysitting skills.
Peacemakers is for 7-11 year olds (2nd through 5th grades). This course
is a six session course designed to help children develop conflict resolution
