Guild to Pay Half of What News Demanded

LOST TIME BILL SETTLED

A long-standing dispute between the Guild and The News over money the company felt it was owed from the last contract negotiations in 1996 has finally been settled.

The settlement, arranged by President Phil Fairbanks, calls for the Guild to pay the newspaper $56,000, half of what The News originally billed the Guild.

Under the contract, the company pays wages for Guild members while they are engaged in negotiations, and then is reimbursed by the Guild.

The Guild contended that The News' bill was inflated, and didn't take into account work done by Guild members while they were in negotiations.
