If you work out of classification, The Buffalo News may owe you money.

The Guild has filed a grievance claiming The News owes back pay to dozens of employees who regularly work in higher-paying job categories.

The grievance centers around a new contract clause requiring the company pay a $6 per shift differential to anyone working out of classification.

The union is seeking back pay dating to Aug. 1, 1996, the start of the current contract.

The News contends back pay is unwarranted because of a long history of never awarding it on issues related to differentials.
