USED BOOKS, CDs HELP THE NEEDIEST

PAIN-FREE GIVING

By DAN HERBECK

Here's a painless and convenient way that Guild members — and all News employees, actually — can do a little something to help out the needy this holiday season.

I'm sure many of our members have new, or like-new, books and compact discs lying around at home, and we really have no use for some of them.

Many of us whose sons and daughters have grown up still have books for young children in our basements or some other long-forgotten location.

Why not bring the books or CDs into work, and leave them under The News Neediest Christmas tree?

That's what I did the other day. Aside from clearing a little space in the basement, it made me feel good to think that some of the Walt Disney books I used to read to my two sons might brighten the holiday of some poor child in our community.

I mentioned this to Phil Fairbanks, and he said it would be a good idea to get the word out to all Guild members.

Happy holidays to all!
