Notes from the Executive Director:

It looks like we made it through another cold Western New York winter and we have nothing to look forward to  now  but warm, sunny days. We capped off the winter of 1996-1997 in fine fashion with our annual Camp Fire Council dinner and business meeting at Crawdaddy's on April 7th. The 74 people in attendance enjoyed some terrific food and had a great time. St. Mark's Da Kan Ya Ki Ci Discovery Club, dressed in ceremonial garb, held a terrific installation ceremony for new board members and officers. The installation was matched only by their wonderfully orchestrated presentation of the Luther Halsey Gulick award to Margaret Whitehead, the council's assistant executive director. Congratulations also to Margaret, the other award recipients and the new board and nominating committee members of Camp Fire.

I would like to welcome Lynn Roland to Camp Fire. Lynn is our new club program director. She brings with her unyielding energy, a tremendous concern for the welfare of our communitie's children, a vast amount of experience with club programming as well as marketing and public relations experience. If you stop by the office, be sure to introduce yourself to Lynn.

Thanks to grants sponsored by our Western New York Assembly Majority Delegation in Albany, we're continuing our renovations at Camp Aloha. This yeaer, we're replacing the roofs on Nicaka and Wotogee cabins and repairing the foundation on the Cook's cabin. Our area legislators see the value in Camp Aloha and have sponsored grants for renovations many times in the past. Currently, they are considering a $20,000 grant request to do more foundation and electrical work. We won't know the results, however, for a few more weeks. In the meantime, consider writing them a letter encouraging their continued support.
