Notes from the new Executive Director:

When I accepted this position two short months ago, my predecessor, Betsy Wieland, told me I would enjoy it. She could not have been more correct. Although I have been with Camp Fire only two short months, I already feel a part of a great team. I have quickly come to admire the dedication and work ethic that our staff and volunteers possess and have tried, at least, to keep up with them. It has not always been easy.

Unfortunately, there has been only one council event since I arrived -- the Christmas Carol for Two, at our office on Main Street. The children's happy reaction to the one-hour play, in which they themselves participated, confirmed to me that Camp Fire's goal is well worth our best efforts.

1997 will be an interesting year. Camp Fire will be adopting new service evaluation programs, developing different fund raising techniques, experimenting with ways to recruit and support club leaders, and pursuing other initiatives. Some of this may require additional work. We may have to look at things a bit differently and take extra steps to ensure our success.

Camp Fire, though, is an organization that sees the opportunity in challenge and will do what it takes to adapt to change. These are surely some of the most exciting and rewarding times ever for children. Times that we will continue to take advantage of to help provide for the well-being of our youth and our community. People in Camp Fire can be proud of the work they have done and will do. It is my privilege to be a part of the team.
