We have completed nine of the fifteen courses in our "Learn And Grow with Camp Fire" program. This program is funded by a grant from the Erie County Department of Youth Services and the New York State Division For Youth.
Currently we have three "Count on Me" Kids courses, two "I'm Peer Proof" courses, and one"I'm Feeling Fine" course to be completed. Please let me know if you are interested in teaching any of these. The courses must be completed by December.
Kenmore Rotary Club donated money to provide a portion of "Count on Me" Kids to the first grade classes at Holmes Elementary School. These courses were taught by Sandy Goldsmith and a new instructor, Tracy Dake.
Two "I'm Taking Care" Babysitting courses are scheduled to begin later in the month of October. Sandy Goldsmith will teach at the Greenhaven Library on Monday, October 21, and Jan Heimiller will teach at the Kenilworth Library on October 28.
I have been trying to get some classes started in the Amherst area with Jan Heimiller's help. Unfortunately, our timing was off since neither class has filled. However, I believe in being persistent and will try again. If any one would be interested in teaching in the Amherst area please let me know. I will arrange to have a class at the Harlem Road Community Center.
Of course, if you are interested in teaching at all, please let me know. I am more than willing to help with recruitment which I know can be difficult and very time consuming. If you know someone who would be willing to teach, please let me know.
The Children's Foundation has approved our request for $1500 for Prevention Education courses. This money will be used to teach thirteen courses to children who live in lower income areas of the city of Buffalo.
Courses have been scheduled to start this week in order to be completed by the first week of December. We have courses being taught at School #90, Academic Challenge, Highgate Heights, and Friends of the Elderly.
