Feeling Lonely, Left Out?

Feeling lonely, left out?

Don't know who your friends are or where to turn in a crisis?

I can help. Send inquires to GEVCSK (that's Guild Editorial Vice Chair Susan Kelley) at The News' other "Meeting Place", the Newsroom. No games - just an experienced staffer and Guild person who's looking for a long-term relationship with fellow Guild members and is willing to help make it happen.

OK, so I "borrowed" a format from the other Meeting Place in The News’ Classifieds. But the point is your Guild is looking to establish a relationship with members who feel that their association with the Guild has become a little frayed, a tad strained or like most relationships - neglected primarily because of a lack of communication.

My area of responsibility for the Editorial department is clerical employees, the bureaus and the library. I took on the responsibility of being a Guild vice chair for you because I believe in the Guild and the importance of the contract and its enforcement. I also believe there is strength in unity, and that in my areas of responsibility we need to build a relationship that would benefit you and your Guild.

Our recent surveys show that people in the Clerical departments and areas outside the newsroom feel out of the loop when it comes to Guild issues. That's unfortunate because we have rights guaranteed by a contract. If the reason you feel disconnected stems from a lack of understanding of those rights or because someone hasn't communicated them to you, I'm here to help.

With 29 years at The News and many years as a Guild steward, I know what the problems are. Lack of communication and understanding shouldn't be two of them.
