Buffalo AFL-CIO Backs Guild in Negotiations

The Buffalo AFL-CIO Council threw its support behind the Buffalo Newspaper Guild and other unions last month, as they negotiate contracts with the newspaper.

The 100,000-member council unanimously passed a resolution supporting the efforts of the Guild to secure a good contract with The News. In introducing the measure, Council president John J. Kaczorowski described "negotiations as not going well at The Buffalo News."

He also said he plans to meet with the leaders of the 13 bargaining units to discuss ways they can work together. Kaczorowski told The Frontier Reporter he wants union officials at The News to meet with the council's executive board, which includes Erie County's top labor leaders.

The AFL-CIO played a key role in resolving recent disputes with the janitors who clean Marine Midland Bank offices and the behind-the-camera personnel at WIVB-TV, Channel 4.
